You are on the...Care Packages Page
Sending care packages is a great way to show your support and how much you care. Deployed troops often lack comforts of home and even everyday items like soap, socks, bug spray and more. These items are common on wish lists of our military members. By following Department of Defense (DOD) guidelines and the tips listed below, you can send an awesome package.
Tips for sending a care package:
- Go to www.usps.com and order flat rate boxes for FREE! No matter how much you fill these, you still only pay one flat rate!
- Use bags of "peanuts" to provide packing, not loose ones that will make a mess.
- Pack the box well, it will be handled many times before it reaches its final destination.
- Scout out low prices in discount stores for items and use your savings to help pay for the flat rate fee.
- Do not send any religious materials, nor any pork products.
- Check the DOD guidelines before you purchase items or you might wind up wasting money.
- Doublecheck the address of where yo want the box to go and avoid mistakes.
- If you want the box to arrive before a holiday, give extra time. The average delivery time is approximately 2-3 weeks, if there are no delays on the way.
- Send calling cards, but make sure they will work for the area where you are sending them.
- Pens, blank cards, stationery sets and paper are always a good idea so the troops can send messages home to their loved ones.
- If there is a wish list, follow it. It is little to ask for someone making such a big sacrifice.
